Our Prototyping Journey
How we are testing our idea
Our idea revolves around utilising data to understand what is going on with an individual and case managing them into appropriate resources.John Ross, Government Relations,

Oklahoma City will conduct simulations of the arrest, booking and release process with prospective community health workers and individuals involved in the justice system to understand and resolve barriers to enabling community health workers.
What we're discovering through testing
Originally, the Oklahoma City team was planning to introduce community health workers to individuals as they came out of the justice system. Through testing, the team found that they should try to intervene as early as possible, in order to prevent individuals from becoming involved in the justice system process. Moving forward, they will try to provide police officers with community health worker’s information, so that they can offer support to individuals who need it more quickly.
Our shift has really moved over time towards prevention. How can we prevent that person from going through the criminal justice system at all.Jackie Shawnee, Director of Communications, Oklahoma City
Oklahoma’s idea requires testing with youths who have been involved with the criminal justice system, as well as working with lots of different partners across the system. It can be difficult to find these people to test with, as well as getting access to places such as courts and prisons. The team has found working with the Arnold Family Foundation has been vital in introducing them to these harder to reach stakeholders.
What we've learned
Throughout the project, the team worked with individuals who had been through the criminal justice system and are intimately familiar with the process. Feedback from these individuals provided detailed insights around what the idea needs to be successful, and was a truly moving experience for the team. The test and learn phase brought to life the impact the current system has on individuals and their families when it doesn’t work.
